Accessibility of Building and Programs
The High Street Church community has made accessibility a priority as part of living our values out loud. Throughout our building and programs, we strive to be as inclusive and welcoming as possible. Beyond physical accessibility, we work to craft programming that is intellectually stimulating and accessible to a wide and developmentally diverse congregation.
We recognize that there are always ways we can improve accessibility and welcome suggestions or conversations about how we might better meet your needs. Please contact the church office to have your ideas forwarded to the appropriate team.
Mobility
The Orange Street entrance, facing the library parking lot, is fully accessible and includes an elevator serving all levels of the building—the basement Fellowship Hall and Religious Education classrooms, as well as the main floor Sanctuary.
Pews in the Sanctuary are arranged to allow those using mobility devices to sit comfortably with a companion if desired. Our chancel platform features a ramp and handrail for easy access. Accessible restrooms are located on the main floor.
Sight
Large-print hymnals and orders of service are available upon request in the Sanctuary. Please ask one of our greeters as you arrive—they will be happy to assist you.
High Street also offers multi-platform options for worship services, team meetings, and many adult religious education classes, allowing participation both in person and online.
Hearing
Hearing-assist devices are available in the Sanctuary. Please ask one of our greeters for assistance when you arrive.
Children with Disabilities
All children are welcome and celebrated within the High Street Church community. Our Religious Education team works diligently to craft lessons and experiences that are inclusive and accessible for all children and families.
If your child has specific needs, please reach out so we can work together to ensure your family feels supported and included.
Pastoral Care
We all experience times in life when we need others to help us through. Pastoral care is one way our Minister connects with individuals around personal challenges, spiritual questions, and times of transition.
Together, you will explore ways to navigate difficulties, connect with broader resources, and remember that you are not alone. All pastoral care conversations are confidential and tailored to your specific needs.
Service Animals
Service animals are always welcome at High Street Church and at all church events. A large grassy area is located directly across from the High Street entrance where service animals may relieve themselves.
Masking & Pandemic Protocols
Currently, the High Street Church Community is a masking-optional community. Members, Friends, and Visitors are encouraged to examine your personal risk level and engage accordingly. Anyone who chooses to mask will be treated with respect, love and care. Additionally, we encourage those who would feel more comfortable to join our vibrant on-line Sunday worship platform.
Our staff and Board of Trustees continue to review and evaluate new information as it becomes available informing decisions surrounding our guidelines.
