Accessibility of Building and Programs
The High Street Church community has made accessibility a priority as a part of living out our values out loud. Throughout the building and programming you will find that we strive to be as inclusive and welcoming as possible. Beyond physical accessibility, the High Street Church Community works to craft programming that is intellectually stimulating and accessible to a wide and developmentally diverse congregation. We understand that there are always ways that we might improve our accessibility, and welcome suggestions and conversations about accessibility needs that we might address. Please feel free to contact the office to have your suggestions forwarded to the correct team.
Mobility:
The Orange Street entrance, facing the library parking lot, is accessible to all, with an elevator that goes to our basement Fellowship Hall and Religious education classrooms, as well as to our main floor Sanctuary. The pews in the Sanctuary have been arranged to allow those using mobility devices to sit comfortably with a companion if desired, and our chancel platform has a ramp and rail for easy access. Additionally, accessible restrooms are located on the main floor.
Sight
Large print hymnals and orders of service are available upon request in the Sanctuary, please ask one of our greeters as you arrive and they will be happy to assist you. High Street is also proud to offer multi-platform options for our worship services, team meetings, and many of our adult religious education classes.
Hearing
Hearing assist devices are available in the Sanctuary for your convenience. Please ask one of our greeters for assistance as you arrive.
Children with Disabilities
All children are welcome and celebrated within the High Street Church community. Our religious education team works diligently to craft lessons and experiences that are accessible and inclusive for all children and families. Please feel free to reach out to discuss how we might best serve your family.
Pastoral Care
We all have times in our lives when we need others to help us through. Pastoral care is a way for our Minister to connect with you around issues of personal difficulty, spiritual questioning and other important times in your life. Your time together will be spent exploring ways to help you through challenges, connect with you broader services and remind you that you are not alone. Pastoral care meetings are confidential and tailored to your specific needs.
Service Animals
Service Animals are always welcome at High Street Church, and all High Street Church events. There is a large grassy area directly across from the High Street entrance where service animals may relieve themselves.
Masking & Pandemic Protocols
Our Unitarian Universalist faith is grounded in values that call us to care about one another, and to center voices that are traditionally silenced and ignored. As such, the High Street Board has worked diligently in consultation with our members, healthcare experts and considering the recommendations from the CDC to maintain a relevant, scientifically sound and values centered understanding of the on-going Covid-19 pandemic.
Currently, the High Street Church Community is a masking-optional community. Members, Friends, and Visitors are encouraged to examine your personal risk level and engage accordingly. Anyone who chooses to mask will be treated with respect, love and care. Additionally, we encourage those who would feel more comfortable to join our vibrant on-line Sunday worship platform.
Our staff and Board of Trustees continue to review and evaluate new information as it becomes available informing decisions surrounding our masking guidelines.
