Our Mission and Vision
Our Mission
Grounded in Unitarian Universalist values, we seek to nurture spiritual growth and to work for justice, compassion, and wholeness—within ourselves, our community, and our world. We strive to live with integrity, cultivate hope, and honor the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
Our Vision
We at High Street Church commit ourselves to …
- Welcoming all people who share our values into our community of faith and hope,
- Offering persons of all ages opportunities to learn and to grow,
- Embracing diversity, believing that everyone deserves a place where they feel safe, honored and included,
- Living our faith through works that positively transform ourselves, our community and our world,
- Giving a home and a voice to religious liberalism in Middle Georgia, and
- Celebrating the passages and milestones of our individual lives and our common work.
This is the working vision of our faith community. To this, we pledge our best efforts and our gifts.
Our Covenant
Recognizing our shared power to heal, to support, and to harm one another through our words and actions, we covenant to:
- remember that how we speak and act matters as much as what we say or do,
- strive to communicate with compassion, empathy, and respect, honoring one another’s lived experiences and vulnerabilities, and
- take responsibility for our individual actions and their impact on the community.
Celebrating the diversity of our congregation, we covenant to:
- care for and nurture our children and youth, modeling values of curiosity, kindness, and justice,
- honor the contributions of all generations, from the imagination and questioning of the young to the wisdom and experience of elders, and
- affirm that relationship, inclusiveness, and democratic process are central to our shared ministry.
Understanding the importance of our faith community in our own lives and in the wider world, we covenant to:
seek reconciliation and repair when harm occurs, choosing relationship over withdrawal and committing to begin again in love.
practice deep listening, remaining open and engaged, especially when conversations are challenging,
speak with kindness and listen with the expectation of good intentions, while remaining accountable to the impact of our words, and
- remember that how we say and do things is as important as what we say and do,
- strive always to speak and act with compassion, empathy, and understanding of each others’ vulnerability, and
- accept responsibility for our individual actions within the community.
Celebrating the diversity of our congregation, we will:
- care for, celebrate, and be role models for our children,
- value the contribution of all generations, from the enthusiasm and questioning of the youngest to the wisdom and experience of the elders among us, and
- remember always that relationship, inclusiveness, and the democratic process are part of our ministry together.
Understanding the importance of our faith community in our own lives and in the life of our community, we will:
- practice deep listening, remaining engaged when we hear something that is difficult,
- endeavor at all times to speak kindly to each other and to listen with the expectation of good intentions on the part of those with whom we interact, and
- recognize that reconciliation, in its various forms, is preferred to walking away and agree to remain in relationship and begin again in love.
