In 1963, the Civil Rights movement, led by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, focused its attention on Birmingham, AL, which was known as the most segregated city in the US. Sympathetic white clergy urged Dr. King (who had been arrested) to postpone the movement’s efforts against segregation. His response was his monumental “Letter from Birmingham City Jail.”
