Social Justice Team Updates

Dear Friends,

I want to start by apologizing for the slow start that our social justice team has taken. That’s on me. The world needs our acts and influence right now, and I hope you are as eager as I am to get this group moving. Let’s begin with these three items: gathering information to set a standing and recurring meeting, offering free training for immigrant allies, and calling on your help with Weekend Lunch next weekend.

Monthly meeting survey: please respond to the linked survey so we can decide when might be the best time to meet as a group and what form you might want that to take. The survey is at this link:

Immigrant ally training:  an organization known as MoveOn is providing a free training session called “Know Your Rights Training for Immigrant Allies.” It is being offered Monday, March 3, at 8 PM. Did I mention that it’s free? If you would like to join, you can — here’s the link to sign up: https://mobilize.us/s/u91dVm. If you are willing to not just join in the webinar but also take notes and make a presentation at our next meeting, please let me know!

Weekend Lunch: we serve this coming weekend on March 8 and 9. I’m a little light on volunteers right now, so I’m asking for your help either as a volunteer or as a recruiter for volunteers. Anyone willing to help out can respond to this email, respond to the post on Facebook, or give me a call at 478.955.4519.

The world is giving us a lot to focus on right now. Let’s set our sights on making a difference in our own community in ways that ripple out and create safe and just spaces for everyone!

Kind regards,

Gaye Martel
