About Our Board
At High Street Unitarian Universalist Church, our Board of Trustees embodies our UU principles of democratic process, service, and stewardship. The board provides leadership, guidance, and support for our congregation, ensuring that our shared vision and values are reflected in decisions that shape our community.
They meet regularly to:
- Oversee church programs and initiatives, keeping our mission and values at the heart of all we do.
- Support the minister and staff, offering guidance while encouraging self-care and well-being for all.
- Plan and coordinate events that foster connection, learning, and service within our congregation and the wider community.
- Maintain and care for our shared spaces, ensuring they remain safe, welcoming, and accessible for everyone.
- Communicate with the congregation, sharing updates and inviting participation, honoring our commitment to transparency and inclusion.

Board Corner Updates
The board met on June 18, 2026 to share updates and plan ways to strengthen our community.

Present: Marie Holliday, Amy Sumpter, Trinity Anderson, Arlen Goff, Spencer Ault, Beth Van Houtte, Jim Scott, Bertram Tulloch, Rev. Amanda Schuber, Debra Clapp
- New Business
a. Minister’s Report
i. Spoke with members. Had a good conversation with Kim Lynn about the Search Committee. You are doing what you do so well!
b. Treasurer’s Report
i. Ironed out the budget and finalized it June 1.
ii. Consolidated the bookkeeper salary with the office administrator position! (Debra)
iii. Saved about $10,000!
iv. The post June budget paid for the roofing expense.
v. Cooling may be out in the Tower room. Check with Charles to get assistance. He was able to fix it 3 to 4 years ago.
vi. The security team wants to add a backup battery. Need to get
estimates for a cage around HVAC. Need to see if the city has to approve the alteration. People can build it.
vii. UUA is reworking their endowment handling.
viii. Marie gave Debra the go ahead to pay the HVAC bill.
ix. Debra fixed the online hymnal line item ($240)
c. Search Team Report, Trinity
i. We’ve met with two candidates and made a decision! The contract is being worked on now. Once everything is official, we will share!
ii. We’re going with a contract minister instead of developmental or interim. Kim would like the search committee to stand behind
Marie on June 28th for the announcement. The date isn’t set due to the contract not being final yet.
iii. Kim wants help with financials on the oncoming contract. Marie asked Jim to respond. Kim can respond at her leisure. (budgeted numbers for the total ministerial package)
iv. The candidate wants a 2-year contract. We can always extend the contract. - Old Business
a. Other-Communications: Announcements/Bd. Synopsis or Col. for Happenings, Monthly NL, Trinity
i. Bylaws? Trying to figure out what to put in the newsletter, do you still want the president and treasurer’s column. Yes, to the
columns. Can reference bylaws or keep them on the website.
ii. Contact Vanessa to see if she wants to proof the issue for me.
iii. Have a newsletter team (Vanessa, Jim, Tucker, Marie, Trinity)
iv. Send it to Debra when it’s done to send via email.
v. New slide for the slideshow prior to service.
vi. Trinity will send a board synopsis to Debra.
vii. Jim mentioned doing fundraisers from the finance committee. Involve communications team and newsletter team.
b. Check File Cabinet, Lights and Doors after each Building Use!
i. Doing well from the security side
ii. The archive room had been opened. Changing the code again. - Jim mentioned an incident report. Spencer will complete it.
iii. Rev. Amanda said we need to have reminders posted around the church, advising people are being recorded
iv. Policy – we might have children on camera and need to have it mentioned in the policies who has access to the cameras - Board Thank Yous-Speakers
