I came to the US from Colombia in the early 2000s and became a citizen in 2019. There are many things I like about this country, but it’s an uncanny place to be when one isn’t white. Despite the rhetoric, the promises of the United States weren’t meant for someone like me. I’ll talk with you what it’s like to be a racial and ethnic outsider to this country while residing in it. I’ll share with you what it’s like to be brown “among the whites,” particularly now.
