Music Notes – January 2025

Submitted by MaryAnn Fitzgerald, Pianist

We desperately need more choir members. Joining the choir is not a lifetime commitment — you can join for a season or indefinitely, your choice. Lately, we’ve had some folks bow out. So: if you have any choir experience at all and can read music enough to sing a part, please consider joining when we start back in January.

Nov. 24th was a big music day at High Street. Our choir sang Like a Mighty Stream for the a.m. service. For the special Community Thanksgiving Service that afternoon, Lisa recruited community singers James Vandiver, Margaret Wilson, and Needham Summerlin to join in singing Thanksgiving Prayer. This piece, sung by us for many years, is by Macon musician and composer Gail Pollock, who attended this service at our invitation. As Lisa messaged the choir afterwards: “What a day we’ve had and what beautiful music you all made this morning and this afternoon. Gail Pollock was overjoyed and told me that today was the first time that she had ever heard a choir sing her piece. She said she knew in her head what it should sound like. She was very pleased!”

Danielle Ross’s Musical Advent Calendar was wonderful! She recruited lots of musical talent from within our church community and made the digital magic happen as well. We also enjoyed the Christmas marimba and flute music on provided by Ian Underwood and Danielle.
